Notes and materials for this workshop are available on our Training Materials page.
HBS faculty, staff, and students can request a license from RCS via this online form. Stata downloads for FAS affiliates are available at. You can learn about all of Stata and about all of Stata's features. Read about all the new features in Stata 14 below. Please see our Stata 17 page for the new features in Stata 17.
If you will use your own laptop, please install Stata in advance. This page announced the new features in Stata 14. Computers with Stata installed are available on a first-come, first-served basis (for in-person classes).
We will also share tips for getting started with Stata including the creation and organization of do-files, examining descriptive statistics, and managing data and value labels.
You will learn how to navigate Stata’s graphical user interface, create log files, and import data from a variety of software packages. This class will provide a hands-on introduction to Stata and introduce common data management techniques. Coarsened exact matching bounds the degree of model dependence and causal effect estimation error by ex ante user choice, is monotonic imbalance bounding (so that reducing the maximum imbalance on one variable has no effect on others), does not require a separate procedure to restrict data to common support, meets the congruence principle, is approximately invariant to measurement error, balances all nonlinearities and interactions in sample (i.e., not merely in expectation), and works with multiply imputed datasets. 11 Lets get started Copy the IntroStata folder to the desktop Open up a new Do-file Set your directory cd C://Users/dataclass/Desktop/StataIntro. In coarsened exact matching, users temporarily coarsen their data, exact match on these coarsened data, and then run their analysis on the uncoarsened, matched data. Coarsened exact matching is faster, is easier to use and understand, requires fewer assumptions, is more easily automated, and possesses more attractive statistical properties for many applications than do existing matching methods. The cem package provides a Stata implementation of coarsened exact matching, a new method for improving the estimation of causal effects by reducing imbalance in covariates between treated and control groups.
